WeVideo gives users a convenient video editing solution. The application is Cloud-based, so users can work on their video edits from any device without a download. Video edits work in real time so the user never has to wait for render times through the multiple layer playback tool. WeVideo also supports social video editing. The user can work with others to edit videos. Multiple users can submit clips to go into a single video without spending time gathering files from email and other sources. The application works in both Mac and Windows computers and offers up a fast experience that allows the user to glide through the video editing process along or with a group of friends online.
WeVideo was founded in April in 2011 by Jostein Svendsen. The application was created after Svendsen realized the mass appeal of online videos. Many people love to post and share videos on the web however few knew how to effectively and efficiently edit their video clips. WeVideo was created to allow the user to edit videos. The current version also supports social video editing so users can work together to create the best video clips using their footage.
WeVideo helps users improve their video editing capabilities without the need to spend hours learning an editing program. The application is user friendly and focuses on speedy editing. Load times are kept at a minimum so the user can edit videos while they are still fresh and relevant. The application also supports social editing, which is a unique approach to allowing multiple users to work on a single video at one time.
WeVideo utilizes a dark background and hints of deep blue to create a calm, relaxed environment for users to edit within. The user can see thumbnails of clips in columns alongside the video player. The actual editor and player looks much like other video editing tools, although it is sleek and works without much downtime. New users may require a few minutes to acquaint themselves with the WeVideo interface. After that initial experience, the user can easily begin editing videos alone or with friends.
A new user can join WeVideo by clicking the light blue “Sign Up” button in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. Three buttons at the top of the next page invite the user to sign in with a Facebook, Google or Yahoo account. Other users can fill out the form presented at the bottom of the page. The form asks for a first and last name, username, password and email address. The next page asks the user to choose their preferred membership plan. After doing so, the user is logged in and can begin working on their first video.
Users are given a free account when they first sign up for WeVideo. The free account gives the user access to basic features, 1 GB of video storage space per month, up to 15 monthly video export minutes and a watermark on videos. Three paid membership options are listed however purchasing has been disabled for the time being. The first plan is the Plus subscription which costs $6.99 a month and includes 10 GBs of storage space, 480p resolution, 60 monthly export minutes, 10 invites per project, 390 licensed music titles, local downloads, no watermark and the ability to export videos to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Vimeo. The Ultra plan costs $39.99 per month and includes up to 50 GBs of storage space, 720p high definition resolution, 50 invites per project and 1080p high definition resolution option. WeVideo is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to edit videos. It offers more features and options for users who would like to edit videos with one or more others. The application is currently limited to a free account only, which is an excellent price for casual users editing personal videos. Eventually paid memberships will make WeVideo more appealing for businesses, professionals and organizations.
